In December 2024, the FAA issued a special airworthiness information bulletin (SAIB) recommending that angle-of-attack (AOA) indicators be installed and calibrated in all general aviation aircraft. Pilots who have flown for decades without using an AOA indicator may wonder why the FAA took this recent step. Learn from a panel of FAA managers and Angle of Attack Working Group representatives how we have come to this point, the value of AOA indicators, use in university and flight training programs, and the status of collaborative work to develop and standardize AOA equipment and training within the general aviation industry.
