Flight Instructor CFI at KEOE

Flight Instructor CFI at KEOE

Your sole instructor, I have flown for over 40 years. While in an Air Force ROTC program in college in western Pennsylvania, I obtained my private pilot's license in November 1974. Upon graduation and commissioning I went to Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock, TX for undergraduate pilot training in the T-37 "Tweet" and T-38 "Talon" aircraft, with follow-on combat aircrew training in the Boeing B-52G "Stratofortress." While flying as a B-52 copilot in upstate New York, I also logged several hundred more hours of time in theT-37 aircraft assigned to the Accelerated Copilot Enrichment (ACE) program. In 1982, I transitioned to the F-111 swing-wing supersonic bomber after a short tour at the Pentagon. I obtained my Certificated Flight Instructor rating while stationed at the Pentagon. At Plattsburgh Air Force Base, I had my first experiences as a military instructor pilot. The F-111 experience came after getting my CFI rating at Andrews Air Force Base while in Washington, DC. When the Cold War ended and the Strategic Air Command was disbanded, I joined the Air Education and Training Command as 14th Flight Training Wing Chief of Safety and then the14th Operational Support Squadron Commander at Columbus Air Force Base, MS. In this job I ran an instructor pilot training operation, taught UPT students, and flew as a T-38 instructor pilot. In my command job I was responsible for syllabus development, ground school classroom training, student training management, weather and air traffic services for the training wing--all specialties critically important to pilots. After Columbus, I served as a group and wing commander overseas and in the United States. As my last active duty assignment, I moved to Columbia, SC to command the Air Force ROTC detachment at the University of South Carolina. Having gained a reputation as a skilled teacher at the university level, I was immediately hired to teach in a high school Junior ROTC in Columbia upon retirement. During the nine teaching years in the high school environment, I obtained my CFI-I certification while also adding a glider rating and a single-engine seaplane rating to my flying portfolio. All these experiences have created a seasoned instructor, well versed in many aspects of military and civilian flying To fulfill my joy in flying, I now co-own an IFR certified General American ("Grumman") AA5A Cheetah aircraft based at the Newberry County Airport (KEOE) and a PA38 Tomahawk at Saluda County (6J4) that I use for pilot training and instrument training. In the past, I have instructed for S & S Aviation at the Fairfield County Airport (KFDW).
