I enjoy teaching. My grandfathers flew in the First and Second World Wars. After graduating from Santa Clara University, I took advantage of an opportunity to study aviation in Colorado at Aims Community College under Eastern Airlines Pilot Entry Program. I completed my initial CFI training in Ukiah, California in 1990 and immediately began training pilots at Santa Barbara Municipal Airport. After adding instrument and multi-engine ratings, I provided instruction in a Piper Aztec prior to flying air cargo round robin from Burbank to Las Vegas and Phoenix. I relinquished my route to join All Nippon Airlines's International Flight Training Academy in Bakersfield, California. For seven years, I enjoyed giving ab initio flight instruction in Beechcraft Bonanza and Baron aircraft throughout California. Once my two children were off to college, I began to instruct once more in Cessna 182s, my favorite model of single-engine Cessnas. Flying is an incredible privilege, and I have been blessed to have been able to share my love of flight with each of my students. I owe my primary instructors Jerry Phillips and Claudia Clark my deepest gratitude. Their wisdom, skill, and dedication are the foundation of the instruction I impart to each of my students. The highly structured flight training I was privileged to provide for All Nippon Airways flight candidates is evident in my reliance on procedure, priorities, flows and checklists to aid in the smooth conduct of flight. I emphasize the development of fundamental flight skills: flight priorities, use of trim, and flying with outside reference.
