What are Listing types
On Skyfarer, listings represent the services, or items, that users book and offer, or buy and sell.
Listing types determine what kind of listing is created and how, in turn, it is booked, purchased, or inquired about.
Each listing type also includes different default sections, which affect the information you provide as a provider or seller when creating a listing, as well as how that information is used by the client or buyer during transactions.

1. Calendar Booking - Hourly
What it is: A time-based listing designed for any service delivered in sessions billed by the hour. This includes flight training and other aviation services that require flexible hourly scheduling.
When to use it: Use this if your service varies in length and you want customers to choose their own start and end time. This listing is ideal for sessions with flexible durations and supports variable pricing across different time slots.
How it works:
Customers select a date, start time, and end time from your available schedule. The system calculates the total duration, and the customer’s card is authorized at checkout. The full amount is charged once you accept the booking.
Additional features included with this listing type:
- Google Calendar 2-way sync: Sync your Google Calendar with Skyfarer so your availability is always up to date. Any new bookings or changes will automatically reflect on your calendar.
- Variable Pricing: You can set multiple hourly rates for different services and allow customers to choose the option they need.
- Post-Session Adjustments: This feature gives providers more control after a session is completed, ensuring final charges match the actual time delivered.
2. Calendar Booking - Fixed Length
What it is: A time-based listing designed for services delivered in a preset, fixed session duration.
Similar to hourly availability, the provider can set their calendar availability on an hourly basis. What is different, however, is that the Fixed unit allows providers to define a set booking length for their listings (e.g., 30-minute lessons, 2-hour blocks).
When to use it: Use this if service sessions you provide have consistent duration and price. This listing is ideal for standardized training lesson formats, structured programs/classes, for any service that always runs for the same amount of time.
How it works:
Customers select an available time slot from your schedule. The system automatically applies your preset session length and corresponding price. The customer’s card is authorized at checkout, and the full amount is charged once you accept the booking.

3. Purchase - In-person Course/ Service Item
What it is: A purchase-based listing for fixed-price in-person services, courses, programs, or training items delivered at a specific physical location. This includes offerings such as training courses, or any aviation-related service sold as a defined product rather than a bookable hourly session.
When to use it: Use this listing type when the provider wants to sell a clearly defined service or course at a set price, without requiring customers to choose a time slot during checkout. It is ideal for:
- Flight schools selling fixed-price in-person courses or training packages
- Instructors offering location-based services delivered offline
- Any service where payment happens upfront, and scheduling or fulfillment is handled after purchase
This option is best when the item is not digital and not a physical product, but a real-world service delivered face-to-face.
How it works
Customers click “Buy now” and pay the fixed price immediately. Once the purchase is complete, the provider and customer communicate through the messaging system to coordinate details.
There is no calendar or availability selector during Checkout—payment finalizes the transaction, and fulfillment is handled manually.
Special behavior / notes
- Includes “Delivery: Pick up / In-person” as the default method, indicating the service occurs at a specific physical location.
- No inventory is required since the “product” is a service, not a tangible item.
- Providers may set expectations within the listing about how to schedule after purchase (e.g., “We’ll contact you within 24 hours to confirm your session time”).
4. Purchase - Digital Item
What it is: A purchase listing for digital items where the supply never runs out (e.g. online courses, training materials, guides, and downloadable templates/resources).
When to use it: It is tailored for listings where a provider may have an unlimited supply of an item but chooses to sell them one at a time. Essentially, this type is suited for any listing where inventory is not a constraint and quantity sold directly influences the listing's pricing.
How it works: Customers click “Buy now”, pay the amount, and complete the purchase instantly. No availability or stock management is required.
- Notes: For digital products, delivery is arranged by the seller/provider (message, email, link, etc.)
5. Purchase - Physical Item
What it is: A product listing for physical items with limited inventory. This listing type is used when each sale reduces stock and the product requires shipping or delivery.
When to use it: Use this when you are selling physical items. Ideal for single-seller or peer-to-peer physical product sales
How it works
The provider can control the inventory of the listing and add more inventory when needed. Customers can purchase multiple items simultaneously up to the amount available in stock or inventory.
Notes:
- Includes built-in support for shipping details.
- Additional features (Real-Time Shipping Rates, Shipping Labels and Tracking) in a future update.
6. Ask Me a Quote
What it is: The "Ask Me a Quote" listing is a provider-created service listing where customers request pricing before booking, rather than paying a fixed price upfront.
This type of listing is ideal for services that vary by situation, project complexity, aircraft type, or customer-specific needs. It works well for aviation professionals who offer customized or specialized services that cannot be standardized into one fixed price.
When to use it: This listing type is best for professional aviation services such as aircraft photography or videography, maintenance or A&P/IA work, ferry pilot services, or other offerings where providers want to showcase their portfolio, experience, and qualifications, and allow customers to request personalized quotes. It is designed for situations where every job is unique and pricing must be determined case by case.
How it works
Providers create listings showcasing their services, and customers request quotes from them. Providers respond with offers, and after any necessary negotiation, the customer proceeds with payment.
Here’s the process in its simple form:
- Provider creating a listing describing their services.
- Customer sending a quote request to the provider, where they describe what they need.
- Provider submitting an offer based on the quote request.
- Customer reacting to the offer (accept, reject, or make a counter offer)
- Provider reacting to the counter offer
- Offer is accepted and paid
- Provider delivering the work.
- Customer reviewing and accepting the delivered order.
- Customer and provider review each other.
7. Customer Request Listing
What it is: A customer-created listing where they post their specific request or needs on the platform. Providers on Skyfarer can browse these requests and reach out with offers—flipping the traditional flow so the provider initiates the conversation instead of the customer.
When to use it: This listing type is best used when a customer has a clear or specialized need and wants providers to respond proactively.
It works well for independent pilots, flight instructors, and aviation service providers offering specialized instruction or services where details and pricing depend on the final agreed-upon scope.
This listing type is especially useful for customers who:
- Prefer receiving multiple offers from different providers.
- Want to negotiate details and pricing rather than booking a fixed service.
- Don’t want to spend time browsing through each listing individually.
How it works
Customers create a listing outlining what they need. Providers can then submit offers directly on that request. This means the transaction begins when a provider responds to a customer’s request, rather than when a customer boks or pays a provider’s listing.
Here are the overall stage in the transaction:
- Provider submitting the offer
- Customer reacting to the offer (accept, reject, or make a counter offer)
- Provider reacting to the counter offer
- Offer is accepted and paid
- Delivering the order
- Requesting changes
- Accepting the order and review
