As for the engine time: The thing is, I don't see the logic of replacing an engine that's statistically safer for the next 500 hours at least then it's replacement would be in the next 200 hours. For me, 500 hours is like 10 years of use. I change the oil filter a bit more frequently to keep an eye out for any metal; have oil analsysis done on each change, upload JPI engine data to look for signs of a problem, and use the very best shops for my annuals. To me, that's the lowest risk approach I can do. Per Grok: Regarding new and reman engines: risk is highest shortly after manufacture, rebuild, or overhaul, then drops. Infant-mortality window (0–200 hours) The first 200 hours after an engine is built, rebuilt, or overhauled is the highest-risk period for sudden, catastrophic failure. This is the classic infant-mortality phase. • Manufacturing or material defects (especially crankshafts) and assembly errors typically surface here. • Documented IO-540 / AEIO-540 / TIO-540 crankshaft failures have occurred at ~100–200 hours SMOH or since new, often from forging issues, improper heat treatment, or incorrect crankshaft installation. Lycoming noted an average of 3–4 crankshaft failures per year across a large fleet of similar parts, with many clustered early. • If a crankshaft survives the first 200 hours, Lycoming and analysts consider it likely to last far beyond TBO (fleet-average crankshaft life often cited at 6,000–10,000 hours). • Other early failures include spun bearings (assembly error), magneto/drive issues, and quality-control problems. Regarding ‘high time’ engines: Far fewer engines operate in this range because most are overhauled or retired at or before TBO. Raw accident counts in the 2,500–3,000 hour band are therefore very low. • When high-time failures occur, they are more often tied to wear (cam/lifter spalling, valve/guide issues, cylinder problems), corrosion from inactivity, oil-starvation events, or maintenance/operational factors rather than sudden bottom-end (crankshaft/case) failure. • Engines that reach this age with good oil analysis, borescope inspections, and regular use tend to be the survivors; the per-hour catastrophic-failure risk for a well-monitored engine is generally lower than in the first 200 hours.

Maintenance Details
Maintained to the highest standards. Annuals going back at least 9 years have been performed by some of the top Comanche expert shops around: Webco, Tim Talley at Clifton Aero (x4), Kristin Winter (x2), and Danny Stark at Twin Oaks (x2). Kristin Winter did the 1,000 hour gear AD, as well as replaced the landing gear conduits in 2022. Digitized logs available for review.

Have decided it's time to sell my 1965 Comanche 260 airplane. I've owned it since 2021; previous owner owned since 2001. Full logs (digital logs available), no accidents. Kristin Winter did the log review of it for me when I purchased... Recently had Kristin Winter do the 1,000 hr gear AD and replace the conduits. Next annual is due in October, and is scheduled to be with Twin Oaks (Danny Stark) outside of Portland, Or. Was thinking if a buyer is in western US, may make sense to combine their pre-buy with the next annual... so that's why I'm opting to list before the annual.
