November 2025 Instructor Updates

New Request Listings Now Live + Platform Enhancements

In recent conversations with many of you — instructors, students, and flight school users — we’ve gained a deeper understanding of the challenges you face. Those insights have highlighted areas where more work is needed, and we want to share several important updates and upcoming improvements designed to support your work, streamline training coordination, and help you connect with more of the right students.

1. New Feature: Student Request Listings Are Now Live 📣

It is now possible for students to create request posts on Skyfarer, using them for specific training searches and allowing instructors to reach out to students directly.

Most students and pilots come to Skyfarer looking for flight instruction, but their needs aren’t always the same. Some are getting started with initial training, others need help with a specific aircraft, and many are looking for an instructor who matches their schedule, learning style, and goals.

To make the matching process more flexible, we’re introducing Customer Request Listings. Instead of instructors posting what they offer and waiting for students to find them, students can now post what they need. They can describe their goals, their availability, the type of instruction they want, or any specific requirement they have. Instructors can then browse these requests just like browsing job posts and submit an offer directly to the student.

Once an instructor submits an offer, the student can ask questions, discuss the details, and choose the option that fits them best. After the student accepts an offer, the booking is made and the instructor completes the training as agreed. This new flow gives students a new way to communicate their needs and gives instructors more opportunities to connect with students who are a strong match for their skills. It’s a more personal, efficient, and streamlined approach to flight training.

2. Platform Updates & Improvements 🛠

To support the new request-based flow, our team is rolling out several enhancements:

  • Posted Date on Request Listings: Each student request will display the date it was posted, helping you prioritize recent opportunities.
  • Simplified Request Creation for Student Users: Students will see a streamlined version of the listing creation page. They will not have access to instructor or school listing categories.
  • Ability to Update an Offer: We’re completing a feature that allows instructors to modify or update an offer after the initial submission. This is especially helpful when pricing or training details shift during the conversation.

To make it easier to navigate, we’ve added a dedicated landing page directly on the platform. Alongside that, we’ll be exploring an auto-notification system that will alert available instructors whenever a new nearby request is posted.

3. A New Transaction Flow for Instructors & Schools 🔄

Right now, most flight instructors create a standard profile listing on Skyfarer, which defaults to:

  • a calendar-based booking (hourly), or
  • a fixed-length booking, where you set the session length and students select a date and start time.

However, some instructors prefer a different model — especially those offering specialized training services or working at flexible locations. We'll be supporting an additional option where:

  • students request a quote from you,
  • you send an offer in response, and
  • the student proceeds to payment after your discussion.

This flow aligns with how many instructors and professional pilots already operate in the broader general aviation community.

With Thanksgiving and the holidays approaching, many pilots fly less and spend more time with family. As always, we’re incredibly grateful for the instructors and flight schools on Skyfarer.

Everything we build is motivated by our goal to better serve you, your students, and the community. Looking ahead, we’re exploring new ways to help you stay connected with opportunities on Skyfarer — even for those who have moved into different roles or stages of their aviation careers. More updates are on the way.

Onward and upward,
The Skyfarer Academy Team
