We are flying along on a nice smooth flight until suddenly it isn't. Bright flashes of lightning and turbulence increasing. Another check of the EFB and the weather you thought was well south appears to be everywhere around you. The sound of the autopilot disconnect sounds its alarm and the updrafts and down drafts are increasing at a rapid rate as you try to keep heart rate from redlining. Suddenly you start remembering your training and the stories you heard and read about. Set power to maintain VA or below, but enough so you don’t stall, maintain wings level and altitude if you can. Advise ATC what is going on and request a block altitude if needed and get a vector out of heavy echoes. Remember aircraft attitude is everything.
