I’ve been drawn to aviation for as long as I can remember. My grandfather flew a King Air, and my dad was accepted to the Air Force Academy before learning he was colorblind. My own aviation journey really began around 14, soaring over New York City in a glider. Something about that silent flight stayed with me. Still, I took a different route at first. I studied finance, ran a Sears store, even owned a car dealership. But one chance conversation with a local instructor convinced me to give flying another shot. That decision changed my life. Since then, I’ve built a career rooted in both flying and teaching. I’ve logged thousands of hours as a flight instructor, earned Gold Seal and Master Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) status, and served as a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) for 5 years, completing over 3,000 FAA checkrides. I’ve flown everything from floatplanes to corporate jets and trained countless pilots transitioning into complex and turbine aircraft. Along the way, I’ve managed flight departments, built training manuals, sold aircraft, and supported new jet owners as they take the controls for the first time. Instruction remains at the heart of what I do, whether it’s in a CJ3+, a Cirrus, or a taildragger on floats. I also believe in showing up beyond the cockpit. I support local airports through the AOPA Airport Support Network, and volunteer with the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam). For me, flying has never just been about the hours; it’s about the people, the process, and helping others become safer, more confident aviators.
